Job Description

You’ll join the Player 3C Team as the designer embedded with our programmers and animators, working on how the game feels to play.

Weapons, advanced driving, input mapping and other Combat/3C features will be yours to design and see through to the player’s hands. You’ll report directly to the Game Director, so you’ll have real influence on the direction of the game.

Your goal:

  • Design and deliver Combat/3C features, from concept and iterations through implementation and balancing.

Your daily tasks:

  • Designing new weapons, advanced driving mechanics, input mapping and other Combat/3C features, aligned with the direction set by the Game Director.

  • Working daily with programmers and animators, speaking their language and keeping the feedback loop short.

  • Writing feature specs, refining them with programmers, and adapting them as implementation reveals new constraints and opportunities.

  • Contributing to implementation by providing clear guidelines, supporting the team along the way, and configuring, balancing and tuning your features in our proprietary engine and tools.

  • Running deep benchmarks of comparable features in other games to ground your design decisions in evidence.

  • Conducting internal and external reviews and turning the feedback into concrete improvements.

  • Maintaining clear, consistent design documentation, and reporting progress, setbacks and proposed solutions directly to the Game Director, challenging the direction when you see a better path.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in a similar position, with at least 1 shipped AA/AAA title.

  • Solid understanding of combat, character control and camera design, and how they shape moment-to-moment gameplay.

  • Hands-on experience with in-engine tools, scripting or visual scripting, enough to contribute to implementation and tune your own features.

  • Proven ability to collaborate closely with programmers and animators.

  • Ability to work independently with a structured, professional approach to design and production.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including clear specs and documentation.

  • Very good command of English.

  • An open and supportive attitude towards all members of the development team.

Nice to have:

  • Knowledge of Dying Light games.

  • Experience with first-person (FPP) games.

  • Experience with open-world games.

  • Experience with proprietary engines and tools.
