IT Systems Administrator

Studio IT: workstations, network, accounts and licences, plus the servers that a development team works on every day.

A game studio puts unusual demands on its IT. Workstations carry high-end GPUs and large local caches, projects live on version control servers such as Perforce or Git with terabytes of binary history, and build machines run around the clock. Postings therefore ask for Windows and Linux administration, directory services and account management, backup and restore that has actually been tested, and the networking knowledge to keep large file transfers from blocking everything else.

Scripting is part of the job rather than a bonus: PowerShell, Python or Bash to automate onboarding, software deployment and licence tracking. Studios with external partners add remote access, device management and the access rules that come with NDAs on unreleased titles.

Server Administrator points at the live game servers and their players. DevOps Engineer builds and operates the pipelines that produce the game. This role keeps the studio itself running.
