Program Manager
A program manager runs work that spans teams: several related projects or an initiative that no single team owns, kept aligned on one outcome.
The role exists where coordination itself is the problem. A platform migration, a studio-wide process change or a release that needs five teams to deliver in a particular order all need someone holding the overall picture, tracking dependencies between groups that do not report to each other, and surfacing risk before it becomes a missed date.
Most of the authority is borrowed rather than given. The work is done by negotiation, clear reporting and keeping decisions documented so that nobody has to reconstruct why something was agreed. Knowing which detail to escalate and which to absorb is what distinguishes the role.
A Project Manager owns one project end to end. A Producer owns the production of a game. The program manager owns the connections between them.
