Web Developer

Web work in and around game studios: studio and game sites, player-facing web shops, account pages and the services behind them.

The briefs under this tag run from a single-handed studio site to a web team inside a large publisher. Common ground is JavaScript or TypeScript on the client, a server in Node.js, PHP or Python, SQL for storage and an API that talks to game or account data. Direct-to-consumer shops, promo pages tied to a release date and web views embedded in a game client are the pieces that make this web work specific to games: traffic arrives in spikes around announcements, and a page that ships late misses the beat it was built for.

Studios also use web developers for internal applications - asset review, planning and production dashboards - which is why cloud deployment and CI/CD turn up in the requirements.

Frontend Developer and Backend Developer describe one half each; this tag covers the stack end to end. Tools Programmer refers to work inside the engine and the production pipeline instead.
