Playstation

PlayStation experience means working against the console's own hardware and rules: the platform SDK, its technical requirement checks, and testing on devkits instead of a desktop.

PlayStation as a required skill points at the parts of a project that exist only because the game ships on a console. Building against the platform SDK, holding memory and frame-time budgets on fixed hardware, using the trophy, save-data and account services, and passing the technical requirement checks before a build may be submitted.

In quality assurance it means testing on devkits, reproducing an issue in the retail configuration, and writing a report in the bug classification the platform holder expects. In engineering it is the controller, storage and network interfaces, plus the certification run that turns a finished build into a release candidate.

Next to Xbox and Nintendo Switch the principle carries over: fixed hardware, a submission process, rules set by someone else. The detail does not carry over. Each platform has its own SDK, its own requirement list and its own vocabulary for defects, and that detail is what a job ad is asking for when it names the console.
