Data Scientist
A data scientist in games builds models from player data: what predicts churn, which matchmaking change helps, where an experiment result is real and where it is noise.
The work starts with a question a team cannot answer by looking: whether a tutorial change kept players, how a difficulty curve behaves across skill levels, what a live event did to a long-running economy. Answering it means pulling the data, choosing a method, and being honest about what the result does and does not support.
Python and SQL are the everyday tools, with machine learning where a prediction is genuinely needed rather than as a default. Experiment design, A/B testing and statistical reasoning carry at least as much weight as model building, because most of the damage in this field comes from confident conclusions drawn from thin evidence.
A Data Analyst answers defined questions and keeps reporting running. A Data Engineer builds the pipelines the data arrives through. The data scientist works on the questions that have no agreed method yet.
